Admit it son, you went to joomla.org, got sent to joomlacode.org, downloaded the latest stable, somehow installed the damn thing, and didn't even bother to rtfm. Maybe, just maybe you read a paragraph on how to install it. Its ok, you're not alone in this world. You got this Joomla! thing running, but you don't know shit. Where do you go from here?

Global Configuration is your friend, and since content is the reason for installing a "Content Management System", that's the second place we're gonna go (after changing the Metadata). Yes there is a "logical" reason why this tab is not the first one in global configuration, but who gives a shite. We do wtf we want around here.

Click sequence #1: Site -> Global configuration -> Content

Click sequence #2: Home -> Global configuration .....

As stated under the "Content" tab: These Parameters control Output elements. That's geek talk for: These things control content. There are a few parameters you can understand without knowing much about anything (Author Names, Created Date and Time, Icons, etc). For now just become familiar with the interface, change the ones that make sense to you, and I will come back later with what some of these features can do for your site.
